The Beginning Of?

I meant to post this days ago but got busy, well here it is now.

The Beginning of?

That morning felt peculiar for a January day, strictly speaking it was too warm. Perhaps this is global warming or just a peculiar day. Of course one can’t begin the beginning of a new world as one would in the past so today was fitting.

The inauguration today was incredible. I could stop there and be satisfied but I’m going to delve a bit into what made it so incredible. People really cared about this inauguration so much that over 2 million people went to see it. The feeling was different, it felt like a celebration until Biden and Obama were signed in, and then when they were signed in the feeling changed. President Obama gave a very humbling speech calling Americans together to work hard amidst the current crisis. He asked for unity and gave a nuts and bolts speech of what we need to do. I loved the line where he said;

“On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord”

It reverberated through me, and made me feel that times are hard but in the past they were harder and we triumphed. Another gem was

“That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age.”

Hard choices, I don’t claim to know what those hard choices are, but I do feel that we as a people, need to come together and take responsibility for the crisis and become part of the solution. Its hard to talk about it, but we do ourselves the favor if we tackle the problem head on rather then let it seep away at us in silent fear. We are a strong people and if we stop bickering we can take on whatever the world throws at us.

On reforming the system he says this.

“And those of us who manage the public's dollars will be held to account -- to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day -- because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.”

I am hardly a fan of the idea of a national healthcare system, but that’s because I am one of the few lucky that have never had to or will never have to bicker with my insurance on what is covered and what is not. This being said, I welcome the idea for others who do have that struggle.
I like his idea of making the government and politics more accessible to the lay man. I think his inauguration shows that he will not be inaccessible and I hope this will be true.

Well here’s to unselfishly hoping for the best for myself, my friends and family the country and the world.
